And that's thanks in part to this "throwing away your vote" garbage. Americans always complain about "only having two choices" whenever an election rolls around, but they're too complacent or just plain apathetic to inform themselves about any other parties. They just assume it's a lost cause, but if American society could just shake off this
general malaise, then more people wouldn't be so scared to vote for a third party.
