Because mentally disabled people usually act funny, lack friends and don't fit in with the 'cool' crowd. Big people have to pick on little people to prove themselves screwy enough to their peers. At least that's what happened to me.
I've never understood why today's youth think a mentally disabled person as to behave in a 'funny' fashion. I myself find them difficult to pick out from the rest of us screw-ups. 'Big' people don't have to pick on 'little' people (though I understand what you mean - I understand you didn't mean 'have' in the context I am speaking in). The ones who do are just plain ignorant. They are generally known as 'scum'.

My best friend is retarded. I've stuck up for him since high-school. Mentally disabled people have feelings.

Today's youth's attitude and behavior can be indeed deplorable. I detest the stereotypes of teenagers and high-schoolers.

Please understand that this post isn't hostile - I'm simply making a point.
