Well, it usually starts by people wanting something different. Then it's better than other people's. Then they start fighting. Eventually a war breaks out. So it ain't much point wanting something unique so much to that extend of detail.
And no country is independent completely. People's lives depend on decisions of some clown on the top and his goons.
