Do you mean they made it up entirely or just took a small story and beat the drum until it became a big one?
I agree that this really shouldn't be an issue because surrogacy has been around for ages. I suppose some people feel uncomfortable about it because it feels like baby trafficking. I think here in Australia, you can't pay a woman to be a surrogate mother for that precise reason.
