It's not Australia, it's the Eastern-Western hemisphere difference.
While the West is in summer, in which I think the North pole is facing Sol more than the rest of the year, the Eastern half is the exact opposite.


Ok, I have no clue how Terra's rotation works, but I know that during summer, the location in question faces Sol more than during winter, and vice versa.
