Eyes are filled with light-sensitive cells that create action potentials when enough light deforms the photo-pigments in them. We actually have a black layer within our eyes to absorb light that is not taken but the retina, so that it doesn't get reflected within our eyes and distort our vision.
Generating the very thing a sensory organ is there to detect
within that very organ is like going around with incense up your nose or bells in your ears.
