I watched all three extended The Lord of the Rings films for some reason. A day well spent.
Some of the scene deletions for the cinema were unacceptable. A load of questions at the back of my mind were answered by them, such as the fate of several characters, and other scenes were just awesome. We get to see more wizard magic, at one point Saruman shoots a massive fireball at Gandalf.
