Actually, I could say Slig, and perhaps get a reference to Edge Chronicles. (Seriousily, a minor character in those series is named Slig.)
What I thought about Slegs was that they were like wild forms of Slogs, sort of like wolves, in comparison to a domesticated dog. I believe that OWI used Slegs in Stranger's Wrath, to resemble that point. The Wolvarks could have easily captured Slegs in the Mongo Valley, since they were so common and could have been tamed.
Another reason why there were Slegs instead of Slogs in SW, is because perhaps they wanted to say Sekto wasn't very connected to the Magog Cartel or Vykkers Comlegerate (sp?). They could have said that instead of making business with competors, Sekto could have easily accessed his own resources for security. Just so he didn't have to trade anything for more tamed Slogs.
