If you bought it from a shop, you would not have to purchase it again. Maybe they just want you to register it. I'd give the McAfee office in your country a call and find out what's going on.
I recently got Norton Internet Security which includes Anti-virus, etc ... and everything is working, I'm getting the virus updates, I registered ... but it tells me I need to subscribe to the update service (even though I am updating). I have to phone them as I was meant to get 1 year subscription w/ the software, but I just haven't got around to it yet.
