But usually if a girl says "don't get me anything", you better get her something [but only something small]. Otherwise she'll get upset.

Believe me, I shower her with things even when she says not to. I just like to spoil her
. But she'd never get upset with me if I didn't get her something, or got something she didn't want, since she isn't that way. She's much more appreciative of our time together, rather than material objects.
