On the top of one of the Hand of Odd pages there is a little picture of mudonkons and sligs running into battle The mudonknos are riding elms but what are the spider type creachers that the sligs are riding?

I just went and opened up my copy of TAoO:TFTY and I think they look like armoured mugs more than anything else.
