No, we are total slaves to our instinct. We're just too dumb and arrogant to realise that that's not free will, it's hard-wiring.

I wouldn't say all of our actions are rooted entirely to our instincts. I believe it's a combination of things. Like intelligence and personality of the person, the situation at hand, etc. I think saying that our lives are completely based on instincts is too simplistic of a way of looking at things.
