There are clearly two extremes being taken here. Obviously the first Oddworld film is not going to be an hour‐long chunk of Abe’s Oddysee followed by an hour‐long chunk of Abe’s Exoddus, but neither are they going to do away with Glukkons or, just to ram the point up your arses, Abe.
The story is going to have to intensified, expanded and mixed up in order to suit the big screen, which will create two separate canons for the Oddworld mythology, in the same way that there are separate canons for other franchises where they have crossed between different storytelling media (cf. the various incarnations of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, as a popular example).
That implies that the spirit of Oddworld is much more important than the bare facts, which is something that should be intuitive.
