It would be Melbourne Cup Day - the whole city gets a public holiday for a horse race! And at the actual moment of the race, the whole country shuts down for three minutes to listen to the radio. Even federal parliament stops if it's in session.
But seeing as Cup Day always falls in my university exam period, I can't be such a fan so instead I will go with the Queen's Birthday. I just love the way that we celebrate her birthday when even Britain doesn't. And, what's more, it's two months after her actual birthday. It really only happens because we couldn't think of a better reason for a public holiday in June.
