Ghost' orb floated above the canopy to look around. He could see huge rocks to the east and south, some sort of river cutting through the forest west through south, and far to the north, the land stopped. There were some houses in a clearing to the north-west. Ghost checked with his map, and everything checked out. He was about to go over to Shrubton, but then noticed the mine shaft in the rocks. Perhaps he could explore that place first? Find out if the fleech stories really are true? Ghost was embarrassed that he didn't already know the answers. He could tell you Queen Maggie's daily routine, but not if Shrubton was really all that it was cracked up to be!
Ghost tested his orb's zapper on a plassing thudslug. It immediately dropped to the ground, curled up. Alive, but irritated. Whisps of smoke curled up from under its shell plates. Satisfied, Ghost descended below the canopy and hovered through the forest, dodging the branches as he went. A hatch opened on the side of the orb, and a small device emerged. It resembled a shorter security camera, with a red eye. A stubbier version of those employed in places such as Rupture Farms. Ghost peered at his telescreen as the image flicked to thermal imaging. There was definitly a heat source in the mines somewhere, but since fleeches did not usually emit heat, this wasn't conclusing. Just another mystery.
Annoyed at this new development, but exited at the prospect of discovering something new, Ghost retracted the TI scanner and floated into the mine-shaft.
