I thought it was that the elctricity 'flickered' on and off for you to get past, and that you step in while it's off, and then go Shrykull.
Have to try that somepoint, when I'm not playing the games I'm currently doing...
In AO, in the secret area with two Slog in (and a wall, so it's really two) I get the Mudokon/s to follow me, then while following, I go through a portal myslef, and when I appear back in the normal area, you hear footsteps, and the Mudokon appears from the left. Then you can do weird stuff with it.
I'll have to play it again and make a more detailed thing. This is only rough, though. Weird, though.
