King Gustav III of Sweden was convinced that coffee was poisoned so he set up an experiment where one prisoner serving a life sentence was sentenced to drink coffee every day and another to drink tea. A doctor was put in charge of the experiment to ensure its accuracy.
The first one to die was the doctor.
Then Gustav was assassinated.
Then the tea drinker died.
And some time later the coffee drinker decided to join them out of solidarity.
