Chapter 3 - The ambush

Jennadelle ran as fastly she could along the street to the great place where she had to find the trailers and Floyd too. Although the clakker has gave Jennadelle warning of outlaws on her way she didn't meet some. This streets were almost stone-empty. But it gave not a damn about for Jennadelle. Probably did the Stranger this job some minutes ago. Maybe Jennadelle could overtake him before he thwarted Floyd.
Now she really outran. Jennadelle was very fast on foot indeed and could cover a long distance without getting tired from it. But abruptly her path resulted in a broken bridge which has stretched over a trench. Jennadelle went closer to it and had a look at the bridge which was broken in its center.
"Who are you, stranger? And what are you doing here?", she heard a voice surprisedly.
Jennadelle turned around and spotted two clakkerz which looked like building workers standing some meters next to the broken bridge. They took a coffee break and leaned against a wooden, little table which stood in front of a jerry-built house.
"I'm Jennadelle.", she visualized, "Bounty hunter. I'm chasing after Floyd."
One of the clakker laughed quietly: "Another one...!", and took a sip out his coffee cup.
Unsurely Jennadelle asked: "That Stranger or how ever you call him... he was here already, I guess?!"
The other clakker answered: "Yeah, he has droped over here some moments ago. He also wants to bag Floyd. Well, it has seemed so. This guy was in a very hurry."
Jennadelle looked at the bridge and frowned.
"Was it Floyd?", she asked and pointed the broken bridge.
"His boys was it, yeah. They want to anticipate the coming of our trailers to town again. That's why they blowed up this bridge some days ago. These bastards!"
The other clakker nodded furiously: "Oh, yeah. And who have to fix it now? We have to do it!"
Jennadelle announced hastily: "But I must go across the trench! I have to go to the place where the trailers are!"
The clakkerz laughed: "Forget it, Jennadelle! Now you can't go over that trench. That's impossible!"
"But how has Stranger went across that broken bridge?"
The clakkerz stopped to laugh. They looked at themself and wondered. And they produced a painful impression.
"We, uh... didn't see well..." the first said and scratched his head shyly.
"Uhm... actually, me too.", the second confessed, "Surprisedly he was on the other side."
Jennadelle just shaked her head. What were these clakkerz daft.
"But I must go to the other side anyway.", she said resolutely.
"Well, that could be difficult, lady. This trench is sure about ten meters long. You can't go over it."
Jennadelle went slowly some steps back. Slow but sure steps. It was clear. She planned something.
"You don't want to...?!", the scared clakker shouted.
the other clakker almost let fall his cup: "No, she will do not...! That's impossible!"
Jennadelle stepped more back with a focused look forward to the bridge.
"No, she never will made that!", the second clakker shouted, "It's just too far!"
But both curious building workers watched this event.
Jennadelle paused. She felt a mysterious powers in her legs. Sleeping ones which she also has forgot... till now.
And these powers revived.
The clakkerz didn't know anymore what to say now. They just marveled.
Immediately, Jennadelle began to run. She ran and felt how forgot memories took her by surprise. Jennadelle just knew she could jump. Fastly. Highly. Trebly. Afar.
Jennadelle got at the bridge and jumped.
At this moment blew the wind in Jennadelle's cat-like ears while she was in the air. And she landed on all four... almost soundless and safe... on the other side of the bridge.
Jennadelle marveled at her own skills. But she didn't let on.

Clink!

Both surprised looking building workers had let her coffee cups fall.
"She... she did...", one of them stuttered but he couldn't say a thing.
Jennadelle stood up and forged ahead to Floyd as if nothing happened. She outpaced two marveling workers without a look behind.
"What the devil...?", the clakker whispered, "Who is that strange lady?"
The shrugging other one shaked his head. He also was at a loss.
"We must treat this... Jennadelle, or how ever they call her, with respect!", he said earnestly.
His friend nodded: "You're right. She seems to be very dangerous. Maybe she isn't a real bounty hunter. Maybe she's new in this business, I guess."
"Yeah. Hoping she never is going to be an outlaw. With such skills... she would be perfect for this."
"You're right. I only can hope that she don't will be an enemy. We were no match for it."
"Never."
Both were silent.
Finally, one noticed the shards on the ground.
"What a bummer!", he freted, "The nice coffee!"
