Well this is a stupid law. Oklahoma sure does have some weird laws. And classing videogames alongside porn, well, that's just dumb. No other word to describe it. Games that have violence are now grouped with porn? I can understand children not being allowed overly violent games like GTA, but the fact is, the store shouldn't sell them to children or adults with children there anyway. And the thing is, where do you draw the line between acceptable and inacceptable levels of violence? But this law also lacks a lot of logic, as I quote:
:
This definition considers inappropriate any game which “lacks serious literary, scientific, medical, artistic or political value” and which features glamorized or gratuitous violence
Now I know it later says that violence that is the main part of games shouldn't be allowed, but still ,this bit is just idiocy- in theory this means a very violent game is OK for stores if it has some sort of value as listed above, but a medium violence game without such 'values' is illegal to be displayed. Not neccesarily in practice, but if you take that part of the law, it is in effect saying that.
And as for banning games where violence is the main focus, it basically kills all of the horror genre of games where blood is used. if they really want to stop such games getting sold to children, they should simply make sure that shop asistants don't sell the games to children or parents. What's next, horror or action films will be classed under the same banner as porn films? After all, it's a similar comparison. America really needs to stop making such bizarre and just, well, bad laws.
