There are similar enough animals today. Pigeons (Dodo's are closely related), Tasmanian Devils and Ostriches. Also, I was told by my science teacher that there is a technique of new cloning in America that works without eggs etc. and people can pay...was it $20,000? I think it was, or summat like that to have your pet cloned.
Pigeons are smaller than Dodo's, the size of the Dodo egg would rip the pigeon's rear end to pieces.
Tasmanian Devils aren't closely related enough to Tasmanian Tigers to be impregnated with a Tasmanian Tiger embryo.
And the same thing as the Pigeon applies to the ostrich. Ripped rear ends all around.

There has been talk that the company that clones pets is scamming people. They regularly supply pets that look similar but not the same to the original pet. They pass this off as mistakes in the cloning process but many people believe that they just buy similar pets.
Also, the way that works without eggs is that cats and dogs don't lay eggs .
