It is possible that when the male dies the largest female becomes a male. It happens on Earth all over the place. Or there are "subversive" scrabs, males who are not dominant. I do have a lot of difficulty trying to reconcile differences between MO scrabs and AO/AE scrabs. Their behaviour is entirely different. It could be that the scrabanian scrabs are nesting, or wild at being confined in the temple...

Well, you are correct in some way, Bullet Magnet. Although
the female does not exactly "become" a male, sometimes
the most dominant female takes charge if a male dies. In
other cases the female is the leader of the pack of flock
in the first place. In a line up the female leads the group-
the male acts like the warrior and fights with other males and mates
with the fellow females. In words, it's like the queen and
her drones.
You know game cocks. They're raised specifically for fighting.
However, the ones in the wild do not fight every time they
meet. And that is what I suppose that's what you mean by "subversive"
animals.
