Nothing can break the laws of physics, only our understanding of them. I don't see how it could be any different on Oddworld, but then its physics aren't the important bit. So long as what we see is believable, I don't see why we need to know how everything works.
Which isn't to say we can't have fun speculating. It's just that an official explanation from OWI could easily restrict the stories, which are what's most important.
