Like Max said, it's like a PokeBall. Perhaps the can dissolves the molecules of the Outlaw, to form one compatted molecule. Also, the insides of the can would have some sort of substance, like plasma, to retain the Outlaw's current condition. After the Outlaws are released, their form is reassembled. That's my theory.
