Life will always survive. There's life in volcanic craters and high temperature sea fumers {can't remember their real name}.
The problem is, Humans aren't all that great at survival. The effect of no EM field would be several fold worse than no ozone layer, in terms of radiation. You've also got charged particals raining down all over the earth's surface every solar storm. That's gonna cause some major problems to technology.

Now I've no doubt we'll survive it, but it's gonna cause some major changes... like making compasses point the other way, and forcing us to not go outside too much.
