That's not particularly accurate. There's no Extinction Gene. I tried Googling the term, but apparently it only appears on the X-Men. I think you mean telomeres, which are genetic codes, but they aren't genes. I'd love to talk biology, but I don't see the relevence.
Since the Gabbits all spawn together, it makes sense that the eggs would already be fertilised. If Gabbits are like fish, then the females lay eggs which the males then fertilise while they're in the water. Theoretically, it would make sense that the Vykkers could snatch them before they are fertilised, but then in the wild that would disturb the other spawning Gabbits, so the Vykkers would have to wait until everything was finished.
Alternatively, the Vykkers capture the females before they've laid their eggs, so like chickens' eggs they wouldn't be fertilised.
