When companies use bad science in advertisements. I can't stand it!
There's one for Cleanex, which states that it "kills 99.9% of all known cold and flu viruses"
YOU CAN'T KILL VIRUSES! THEY'RE NOT ALIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Sorry, but it just really bugs me. And the use of studies and statistics in commercials. "4 out of 5" "3 out of 4" "8 out of 10 cats!" Those are obviously made up on the spot! As long as they don't give 100% then you can't possibly prove them wrong if you come into that minor percentage, but they are clearly made up. And then they go and say "scientifically proven". I for one, [I]know[/] that these people, like many others, do not understand what it means to scientifically prove something. You cannot prove and theory, only disprove it. A theory only counts scientifically when there is evidence to support it, and untill there is evidence to diprove it, which they practically admit to when they list their statistics as not having a 100% success rate. And then they don't even show the evidence, they just give us their "findings". Aaaargh!
There's is a Buddhist saying: "Take nobody's word for it". I take it to heart.
