If industrialists designed the technology behind Slig pants, I don't think developing a way to ride Mugs would be much of a challenge.

I bet I know how they'd do it, too. They'd hook up a harness, both imbedded in the Mug's body and on the outside, with extra mechanics (joints, hydrolics) attached to the wings, with a cockpit in the center for Sligs. They'd most likely force the Mug to fly against its will (making for a good plotline as well).
