It kinda makes the sligs look more dangrous. It has them looking with an 'angry stare' now rather then the dull 'nuteral' look they had with the visor.
And I think a big part of it was that they figured that sligs do more then just guard and use guns. So they had to adjust the mask to that. The valet, MOM announcer and glukkon assistants for instants don't need to be focused on guns and such.
