It may not have been a joke. No, really! When I was at that age, I did the same exact thing at the mall when I thought some random boy was cute. I'd tell a friend to go tell him, but then to make it not obvious that I was pathetic enough to need a friend to do it for me, I'd pretend to be annoyed at her in front of the guy. The whole "stop iiiit" thing. But if she was flat out saying "no, I don't!" between "stop it"s, then it probably was a joke.
Maybe your self-esteem is just low, so you automatically just assumed it was a joke? It happens.
Anyway, I do love the names you termed them (if they were joking). "Sparkle" and "sprinklebunnies."
