I don't see how people can say heavy metal sounds the "same". Thats preposterous to me. There are so many different sub genres, views, ways to sing and play that I have a hard time believing it.

That's a universal thing, I believe. Most people who are unfamiliar with and/or simply don't like a certain genre will claim that it all sounds the same. And who are we to say that it doesn't? It all (meaning any genre) very well
could sound the same to them; music is such a subjective thing.
Hell, I think that all rap/hip-hop sounds identical, even though I know for a fact that it
all of it couldn't possibly be the same. I'm just not familiar enough with genre to tell the difference between bands and singers. It all blends together, simply because the style doesn't interest me.
