Ironic that there are so many different answers, and so many that sound rather definite about their own answer. I of course realise that LuLu needed to be made filthy rich in order to enter and bid on the Gabbiar, but the question is why did Abe and Munch have to go through the trouble of making LuLu rich when they could have already possessed a wealthy Glukkon such as Tex?
Obviously this was just a gameplay thing, but storywise the only thing that's made sense to me so far is that they were either emptying the pockets of possible bidders; those being Glukkons within the general area and not Vykkers seeing as most would be located inside of the laboratory.
Maybe it was that all the other Glukkon's capable of possession for the auction were already within Vykker's labs before this quest began, although LuLu was dirt poor from the beginning, so it might have made more sense to go straight after a Glockstar and getting them to enter the auction.
Everything we've discussed so far have just been theories and speculation, though.
