Okay, let me put it this way.
Lets say for the sake of argument that you're a punk, okay? Now, one of the punkiest things you can do is have a leather jacket with loads of studs and chains on it... but lets say you don't like studs and chains, and prefer ordinary, unstudded ones for your "look".
Now imagine you walking into a room, and everyone looking at you funny and making stupid comments, just because you didn't put any goddamn studs in your jacket.
Just because you're a punk doesn't mean you have to conform exactly... there is such a thing as customising an established look to suit your own personal tastes...
It's the same thing with emo and my t-shirt. Replace the punk with the emo, and the jacket with the t-shirt, and you've just done something we call "putting yourself in my shoes", AKA "empathy".
