Um... I'm not really sure if I believe an animal can have romantic feelings toward humans. That's all I'll say on the matter.
From a scientific standpoint there are only two species on the planet who know such an emotion as Love. Thats us, and some bird (if I remember correctly).
From a natural standpoint, I'd say we can't be sure if we are the only ones with a love emotion. With Dolphins being as smart as they are, it could be that they are able to fall in love, but maybe only with their own species.
Although, unless I see reason to believe otherwise I just think that animals can get very attached to a human which they know is a good friend. Such as their owner, or caretaker. But not in terms of love. Not in the terms we give the word anyway.
