what's wrong with wearing black?

Nothing, but chavs will assume that if you're wearing black then you're a goth, and they're antisocial, hate-filled biggots, so will therefore hate you.
I used to hate that I lived in an area filled with chavs, back in the days when everybody called them townies. Even we called ourselves townies - you were either a townie or a pikey, which is what we called goths and punks - that said, we weren't all hostile. We scorned and disliked those who were trashy and rebellious. Perhaps, then, we should reinstate the tern townie - and in doing so reminding country-dwellers that people who live in urban areas are called urbanites, not townies - for all people who follow the trends and fashions, and say chavs are the violent, antisocial sub-section of these people.
