Best Strategy - Civilization IV
Okay, I'll admit this is a tad premature as I haven't actually played it yet, per say...but I loved Civ 2 and Civ 3, and magazines are saying civ 4 is the crowning achievement, so why not give it the benefit of the doubt?
Best Shooter - Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Historically, I'm not a fan of the all to bland and generic shooter genre. By innovating with strategic ammo use, flawlessly integrated environments, no load times, and great characters and story...how can anyone go wrong? Definitely the kick in the jaw the shooter genre needed.
Best Adventure - PsychoNauts
"...Who are merely the pawns of...the dairy industry, who are connected with the four richest families in America, and those eggheads in their ivory tower with the...Psycho-whatzits. And who wins? They do! Who looses? A clean, alternative energy source..."

Even if you had somehow pulled this off, the counsil would have found you out, and they'd never let an assassin back into their fold." - Pride, FullMetal Alchemist
