No, there's probably a lot more going on a Vykker's Labs that we saw. It takes a lot of work to develop a new product and make it as harmful as possible and I really don't think Humphrey and Irwin can do it all on their own.
My vibe on Doc was that he was a little down and out. Maybe he had been fired from Vykker's Labs and had to go as far as possible out of Humphrey and Irwin's medical monopoly in order to find somewhere he could practice. Or perhaps he was on the run from the law. That would fit with the whole 'wide west' theme.

If the surgery would have been completed then Stranger would just have kept being a bounty hunter. Then he would not have gone after Sekto, would not have run into the grubs and then everything would have taken a very diffrent turn. AKA, the story would collapse.

But why did he accept the bounty mission from Sekto even when he thought the surgery was going ahead? I never really understood that: was he intending on going after Sekto even before he was captured and his secret identity revealed?
