Hmm, enlighten me please of the differences? I can't see how there could be much difference... Surely the root philosophy is all the same: not disrespecting one's body with such activities.

The root philosophy is the same, but the rest is different. "Straight Edge" has a whole seperate clothing style that goes with it in the US, but in the UK it doesn't have that, it's usually just adopted by the emo kids. Basically in the UK it's just another part of emo.
Scene kids hate straight edgers because they believe that getting absolutely shitfaced is the only way to have a really good time, and therefore think that straight edgers are boring because they refuse to do this. They also tend to think that the only reason people go straight edge is because they want to feel like they are superior to everyone else - they consider this arrogance but personally I think they're more worried about the competition.
