I understand. If you look at my post again, you'll see that my first paragraph concerned the introduction of religion to government policies and how people should be allowed to behave. In this case, the discussion was about homosexuals adopting children. Someone brought the bible into the discussion, which is irrelevent because not everyone in society follows the bible; there are people of all religions/beliefs.

Once the conversation had evolved into a religious debate, it's perfectly acceptable to use quotes from the bible to back up what you're saying. But I wasn't using them to support any claim of divine law. I just pointed out that it's hypocritical to single out homosexuals when it would be equally valid to deny people who eat shellfish the right to adoption because the bible says thou shalt not eat shellfish.
