I suppose it's all dependent on the nature of the children involved. I was smacked as a child and I avoided doing naughty things to avoid being hit - it taught me just fine. Then the issue becomes one of how to determine what's best for the individual child. I'm no expert, but I think a ban of smacking children is stupid. It
does work, just not all the time.

I also think it's morally unethical. If teachers aren't allowed to punish naughty children by violence, why should parents have the right to hit their children.

Well now, who apart from the government says that it's wrong for teachers to hit children? They exist to act as
de facto parents, so they should have all the same rights as the parents: I don't think it should work the other way round.
