Humans have survived for a while. I don't think we're in any real danger as a species anytime soon. There's no need to be so apocalyptic.
2006 will be the first year that the high school sophomore class of Washington will have to pass a standardized test known as the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL for short) to graduate from high school. I've never had any trouble with it before (it's given in 4th and 7th grade as well), but I am somewhat worried for my classmates. This test is notorious for its huge rate of failure. My only real hope for the majority of my classmates is that so many people will fail the test, the people in control of education in this here Worshington will instantly see how stupid an idea it was to make it mandatory to pass it, and abandon that plan.
For the good of the order, I must point out that they were planning this before Bush came into power. It's not the federal government that's screwing up in this instance, it's the stupidity of the people in charge of my own dear old Evergreen State.
