Then he came to his senses and grabbed up his slingshot, half-expecting to see sligs leap out from the trees or behind the remains of huts and start firing at him. He started walking around the debris, searching for any sign of survivors

Oy! Who is that? You one of the other villagers? No need to attack me when you see me, it's me, Laskar."
Abhay, when he initially heard Laskar's slig voice, quickly jumped sideways and rolled behind the remains of a hut, more out of reflex than anything else. When he heard the rest, he cautiously looked around the edge of the hut, then jumped back to his feet and stepped out.
He spoke hurriedly, "Laskar? It's me, Abhay. For a little while I thought nobody had survived! What happened? I just got back now and found... this..." he shuddered.
