Musical rant I feel I must say:

People who say that ska is stupid... ugh. Ignorant buffoons. I try to tell people I like ska, and the only thing that's worse than someone asking "What's that?" is someone who says "I heard a ska song once... it was stupid." Wow, one song? From a genre as varied as any other?
As varied as any other genre? Are you sure? It all sounds pretty much the same to me... Same sort of fast paced, upbeat rythem with the usual horns and stuffs. Maybe that's just me but I've definately heard some more varied genres with more original exploration of styles rather than just copying everyone else. Of course all genres have that problem... they set their own stereotypes which people follow to try to make sure that their music is defined as "Genre X". But in most genres you do get songs that break the mold and only barely fit into any genre... I just don't tend to find that with ska. They all sound like midly more punky versions of old 1980's ska records.

And I've heard a ton of ska, seriously. Everything from The Madness to Less Than Jake and The Aquabats... as well as a few underground ska bands like Solarbeat. And I hate all of it, it just rubs me the wrong way, but that doesn't stop me from noticing that there isn't really much exploration going on in the genre...

I'd say it's the same for emo, punk, and numetal. They're overplayed, overcommericalised and heavily copied. As for Greenday, god, nearly all their new songs sound just as bad as the last. They seem to have this amazing talent (if that's what you would call it) for reducing all their songs down to the same dull uninspired drone. It just puts me off the whole scene. Money and music really do not go together... they create this really dishonest crap.
