Heavy metal is overrated.

Why is it that so many people say that "Heavy Metal" and usually "Slipknot" in particular are just a wall of repatative noise? Do their ears not function?
If you clearly have no appreciation or understanding of the genre and music therein, why even attempt to judge it or say that it's overrated?
