Yeah the silent treatment sucks when it's being done to you, so I know how it can be effective. But the thing is that often someone assumes that you appearing none the wiser means that you're stupid... either that or gullible/inperceptive/naive etc. and if you don't show your knowledge in some way then they'll just keep on thinking that, and at the end of the day it'll be more of a loss to you.
I guess I just didn't want that to happen, so I confronted him about it and he agrees that he was overreacting.
