The console is going to be the same damn size and shape as the last console, so why not have an integrated hard drive like the last one did?

To be fair, it's a wee bit smaller, but that's besides the point.
The thing will have a 20 Gig hard drive (at least, it'll be an option), so I don't really see why it's such a big deal. Sure it would be nice to have it impemented as a neccessity instead of an accessory, but as long as it's available, I don't think it's a problem.
