Chapter 4
He had made it through his escape route without any problems so far. He was walking slowly so no-one could hear him. This was a dark part of the factory. There was only one light in the entire corridor so far. He inched his way through the corridor. He though he heard footsteps ahead but he wasn't sure. He was afraid that they were searching for him. There were speakers every few feet. Suddenly, a booming voice came over the intercom. "Attention all Sligs! We have a Worst case Scenario on the loose! There are search parties throughout the factory! Be on the lookout for Mervick the Slig!" Mervick thought about the words. He thought he had heard of a 'Worst case Scenario before, but he couldn't confirm it. He kept moving. He was positive now that there were footsteps coming from ahead. There was a corner in front of him. He got up against the wall and stayed quiet. Maybe it might be dim enough for the stranger to pass by him. When the owner of the footsteps rounded the corner, he learned it was none other than his good buddy Norak. Mervick's buddy saw him but didn't say anything. They stared at each other. Norak seemed wide-eyed and frightened. Without warning, he bolted back down the way he came. Mervick tried to pursue him, but by the time he rounded the corner, Norak was gone. "What in Odd's name?" Mervick thought. "I thought this corridor was much longer than that." He shrugged off the thought, thinking he was wrong, and kept following. After a while, he noticed that there had been no sign of Norak coming this way in the first place. No foot-prnts in the dust, no nothing. Even some of the Muds that were cleaning hadn't seen him. Mervick decided that he couldnt chase Norak forever. He continued on his original escape route. If you're going to get out of a huge mechanical factory with bounty-hunters chasing you, then you'd best do it right.
