Are we at all certain who it is doing the shopping on Oddworld? I doubt the Glukkons buy most of their own crap, they know what's in it. I suppose the Clakkers and Wolvarks are sort of Oddworld's middle-class consumers. The Mudokons are slaves, and I think Sligs are like soldiers on perpetual active duty (just buying cigarettes from the barracks' store).

Sligs are consumers of weapons, armor, luxuries. They have to supply all their own equipment and such. Basically, they buy their own office supplies from the company they work for. How do they pay? With their pay check, of course. Everyone has to pay for luxuries, and once you also take into account that they probably need to pay for food and boarding too...the system isn't very wallet friendly for sligs.
