I'm stuck with free software, so the GIMP and Gmax for me.
Or, when I'm feeling frustrated with my software,
PENCIL to the rescue!
I guess they get the job done, but it would be nice to actually be able to render 3d scenes properly, without having to use YAFRay (Yet another free raytracer), as it doesn't always work properly.
