Instead of falling to the ground and disintergrate he went all black and shrank in the same position he was when I shot him. He just kept getting smaller until he was gone. Weird.

I've had something similar to that happen in AE, it was around the first part of the brewery, I had possessed a slig and I got him on a platform without him having to use it (by using the switch and good timing), then I walked him off it just before it reached the top and instead of going splat on the ground he did what you said: just stood there on the ground and shrank! I've even got an animation of it, but I think it's too big to attach.
