MSN chat was inane and had far too many idiots on it even before they made it paid only, so it was never really worth using. It's now made worse by the fact that all the people intelligent enough to know that it isn't worth paying for, are the ones who were intelligent enough to have a conversation with.

But whatever, they're on the chatrooms not the MSN messenger chat client.

I personally hate AIM. I prefer the simplicity of MSN. AIM is far too cumbersome, comlicated, poorly layed out, and difficult to use efficiently for my tastes.

Having said that, I can't personally understand the problem you have with MSN making its' chatrooms pay-only. It was done to protect the large number of younger users from paedophiles, after research showed that in the majority of paedophile cases, MSN chatrooms were the weapon of choice. I for one support Microsofts' decision.
